The story of
Mountain-top removal

Kayford Mountain is the poster-child for mountain-top removal. Environmental degredation ripples through the local ecosystems and harms all inhabitants who stand in its way.

...the story of
Kayford Mountain

Mountain-top removal is a form of surface coal mining that decimates all of the land above the desired seam.

Companies reap tremendous rewards and leave irreparable damage on the immediate and surrounding ecosystems (for the benefit of people hundreds and thousands of miles away).

"Anything else you're interested in is not going to happen
if you can't breathe the air
and drink the water.
 Don't sit this one out
Do something."

...and the story of
Stanley Heirs Park.

Stanley Heirs Park is both a beacon of hope as well as a reminder of tragedy. Prior to 1986, sons and daughters would crane their necks upwards to admire the massive mountain peaks encircling them. The view from Stanley Heirs Park, owned and protected by the relatives of recently deceased Larry Gibson (president of the Keeper of the Mountains Foundation) is  now much different. Since 1986, the surrounding peaks have, inch by inch, diminished. The piece of land housing the park, which used to be the lowest point in the area, is now the highest. The park itself is untouched by outside interests, unlike the rest of the resource-rich neighboring lands. The park is a haven in the midst of ruins.
